subjects
Space hostages
A group of children is kidnapped by a seriously ill flight lieutenant on board a top-secret spaceship. When they are in command of the ship alone, they struggle to return home safely. The book examines the dynamics of the global cold war and the interpersonal relationships between children. Published in 1967.
Trillions
A mysterious shower of tiny crystals falls over the whole earth. Nobody knows where they come from or what their purpose is, but they definitely act weird. When put together, they mimic strange and sometimes threatening shapes. A boy with a microscope is more likely than any scientific expert to find the answers. Published in 1971.
Grinny
Grinny is about a normal family in Central England whose lives change when they are visited by aliens. The alien takes the form of an apparently kind elderly relative who plays tricks on the adults in the family but does not use this method on the children. The aliens announce throughout history that this decision is for the purpose of studying human children in an unchanged state considered natural by their race. You don't care about this process on your second try. This grandma-like character is eventually exposed by the ingenuity of the kids (they find she isn't a normal person.) Published 1973. Animated as an episode of CBS Storybreak.
You remember me
In You Remember Me , the same aliens from the previous book Grinny return to Earth and try to take over the planet again, this time by "taking over" a television presenter who uses psychological tricks on your show to try to manipulate people. Again this is foiled by the children. Published in 1984.
Wheelie In The Stars
Badly paid workers in a dismal industrial settlement on a distant planet dream of assembling a smuggled motorcycle and driving it into the open spaces. But gasoline and internal combustion engines are banned and their attempts are sure to get them into trouble with the all-seeing authorities. Published in 1976.
Time trap
A late 21st century teenager discovers that he can travel back in time with a drug from his "uncle" Lipton, who is over 130 years old and will likely live at least 100 more years. Together they escape the horrors of their senseless present to relive life in the past. But time travel has its own dangers and Uncle Lipton is not entirely honest about his motivations. Published in 1976.
Monster Maker
Monster Maker was adapted by Matthew Jacobs in a 45-minute television special.
Harry Dean Stanton plays a London-based American special effects expert who is friends with a young fan named Matt Banting (played by Kieran O'Brien ). It was produced by Duncan Kenworthy by Jim Henson's London-based Henson Associates and directed by Giles Foster.
Star Striker
Tired of staying in boarding school on Earth while their parents colonize a new planet, a group of kids decide to build their own spaceship out of outdated equipment to join their parents and collaborate with the mysterious Octopus Emperor .
