Nick Grinde

Nick Grinde (born January 12, 1893 in Madison, Wisconsin , † June 19, 1979 in Los Angeles ; actually Harry A. Grinde ) was an American screenwriter , film director and film producer .

Life

Grinde graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison . He was one of the scriptwriters of the so-called "B-series" for Columbia Pictures , whose films received massive acclaim, but whose names were unknown to anyone. At the beginning of the sound film maera he supported Broadway directors by applying his elementary knowledge to their work. In 1930 he co-directed the film adaptation of The Bishop Murder Case and the production of Good News . Although he began his work as a filmmaker in the late 1920s, he did not work on more well-known films until the mid-1930s, after he got a contract from the Hal Roach studios in 1934 .

His films, which came from all genres, were mostly short films, which overall remained rather unknown. Grinde was one of the scriptwriters for Laurel and Hardy's Babes in Toyland (1934). He directed How to Sleep , which won an award in 1935. Hitler - Dead Or Alive (1942) is one of his more famous films . He ended his work as a filmmaker in 1945 when he became one of the first television program directors.

Before Grinde married his future wife Hazel, he was married for a while to actress Marie Wilson, who also starred in Babes in Toyland .
