Nick Straker

Nick Straker (* 1957 as Nicholas Charles Bailey ) is an English pop musician .

Music biography

Nicholas Bailey played from 1969 initially with relatively unknown bands such as Stonehenge, Batumbi and Limmie Funk Limited.

He had his biggest hit in 1979 with the Nick Straker Band, to which Tony Mansfield (* 1955 ), Pete Hammond and Phil Towner (* 1955 ) also belonged. The self-written A Walk in the Park first entered the charts in Germany , then into the hit parades of Austria and Switzerland . In these countries the song became a top 10 hit. In the summer of 1980 it was placed in the top 20 of the UK charts .

The singles Don't Come Back and Leaving on the Midnight Train made it onto the German charts in 1980, but the Nick Straker Band was unable to repeat the success of A Walk in the Park . From 1981 the group had success in the US dance charts. A Little Bit of Jazz conquered number 1 on the Hot Dance Music / Club Play charts, while Straight Ahead was number 12 in 1983.

Versions of A Walk in the Park

In 1987, Stock Aitken Waterman produced a new version of A Walk in the Park that missed a chart position. While Tony Mansfield was successful as a music producer (among others for A-ha and Captain Sensible ), Bailey appeared in the 1980s as a songwriter for example.
