Nicholas James "Nick" Vujicic (born December 4, 1982 in Melbourne , State of Victoria ) works internationally as an evangelist and motivational speaker with lectures on the subjects of disability , hope and Christian faith. As a result of a rare malformation , the tetra-Amelie syndrome , he was born without arms or legs.

Life

His grandparents emigrated from Serbia to Australia after World War II. His parents met each other in Melbourne. His mother Duška worked as a nurse. His father initially worked as an office clerk in accounting and later as an IT teacher at a college in Brisbane. He volunteered as a lay preacher in a Christian community.

Nicholas Vujicic is the firstborn son of the family, he has two younger siblings named Michelle and Aron. Nicholas was born with no arms or legs. Only a small foot with two toes is present at the base of the left thigh. After the birth, both parents were initially in shock. He later said: "My mother was a nurse, did everything right during pregnancy, but she still blames herself."

The parents supported the son, who was healthy except for the physical malformations, in order to enable him to lead a largely independent life. He attended a school for the disabled, following Australian law. After a change in the law, his parents sent him to a mainstream school . He was teased, suffered from depression, and attempted suicide when he was ten years old. He also suffered from existential fears about the future: "I was afraid of what would happen if my parents could no longer support me."

After elementary school in Brisbane , he attended high school there and received degrees in accounting and financial planning.

Vujicic reports in interviews and lectures that for a long time he saw no meaning and no hope for himself in his life because of his disability. That only changed when he saw his handicap no longer as a punishment, but as a challenge and a mandate from God. He finally found the meaning of his life in telling people about God's love and encouraging them to fulfill their dreams.

Today Vujicic lives in California and works internationally as a speaker mainly in schools, churches and at Christian congresses. He addresses life with disabilities, courage and hope , and Christian faith: "Maybe that's my job to give hope to other people."

He is a board member of the Christian organization Life Without Limbs, through which he organizes events and distributes recordings of his speeches.

Vujicic's aggressive approach to his disability regularly arouses interest in the international media. It reports how he copes with everyday life, how he practices various sports (swimming, surfing and golf) with his disability, travels and how he is perceived internationally as a Christian motivational speaker.

On February 12, 2012, he married his fiancée Kanae Miyahara. The couple has two sons and two daughters: Kiyoshi James Vujicic (born February 13, 2013), Dejan Levi Vujicic (born August 7, 2015), Olivia Mei Vujicic and Ellie Laurel Vujicic (both born December 20, 2017).

Positions

Nick Vujicic confesses to the evangelical revival movement ("born-again believers") in his own creed , following traditional Calvinist theories in the teaching of sin and redemption . In addition, he believes the second coming of Christ is imminent. A commitment to a specific institution or free church is not given.
