Nicky Gumbel

Nicholas (Nicky) Glyn Paul Gumbel (born April 28, 1955 in London ) is a British Anglican priest and author. He is best known as a developer and promoter of the Alpha Course , a fundamental introduction to the Christian faith .

Live and act

Nicky Gumbel is the son of Walter Gumbel , who was born in Heilbronn in 1903 and worked as a lawyer in Stuttgart since 1929 . In 1933 the National Socialists withdrew Walter Gumbel, a Jew , from his professional license . Gumbel then emigrated to Great Britain , where he was approved as a barrister in 1935 .

Nicky Gumbel trained at Eton College and Trinity College , Cambridge. In 1976 he did his MA in law there and initially followed his father in the profession of barrister-at-law . In 1983 he began to study theology at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford . As a former attorney, Gumbel joined the team at Holy Trinity Brompton Church in London in 1986 as an authorized signatory. In 1987 he was ordained a priest. In 1990 he took over the Alpha courses from Nicky Lee, which were developed at Holy Trinity Brompton Church and have been held there since 1973.

Gumbel was appointed vicar of Holy Trinity Brompton Church in September 2005 after his predecessor Reverend Prebendary Sandy Millar was ordained bishop.

Nicky Gumbel is the author of many books related to the Alpha Course, including Questions on Life , which has sold over 750,000 copies worldwide and published in 48 languages. His lectures are published in this book. In 1993, Holy Trinity Brompton Church hosted the first Alpha Conference for Church leaders, attended by approximately 1,000 leaders. As a result, the Alpha Course spread throughout the UK and 168 other countries in a wide variety of churches, including Catholic and Orthodox churches.

Honors

In 2007, Gumbel received an honorary doctorate from Gloucester University for his service to the Church .
