Nicholas "Nicky" David Maynard (born December 11, 1986 in Winsford , Cheshire ) is an English football player.

Athletic career

Crewe Alexandra (2005-2008)

Nicky Maynard began his playing career in the 2005/06 season with Crewe Alexandra in the second-rate Football League Championship . After initially being loaned to an amateur club, he made his debut against Millwall FC at the end of the season . With the first touch of the ball, he also scored his first goal in professional football. His team was relegated to third from bottom of the second division at the end of the season, but the 20-year-old Maynard (31 games / 16 goals) won a regular place in his team in the 2006/07 season. After a fibula fracture in 2007/08, he only played 27 games, but scored 15 goals.

Bristol City (2008-2012)

After his team had barely prevented relegation in the third division, a second division team became aware of Maynard in July 2008. Bristol City secured the services of the 21-year-old attacker on July 31, 2008 for a transfer fee of 2.25 million pounds and provided him with a four-year contract. In the Football League Championship 2008/09 he played 42 games and scored eleven goals. His first year in Bristol saw an increase in the 2009/10 season . Maynard secured the top scorer's crown in the second division with 20 goals in 42 games together with Peter Whittingham from Cardiff City . Due to a serious injury, Nicky Maynard (13 games / 6 goals) did not play for the first time in the 2010/11 season until February 12, 2011. After the end of the season, City rejected various offers from other second division clubs for the player who would be free to transfer in the coming year.

West Ham United (2012)

After a contract extension in Bristol did not come off in the course of the first half of the season, Maynard moved to league rivals West Ham United on January 31, 2012 .
