Nico Mattan
Nico Mattan (born July 17, 1971 in Izegem ) is a former Belgian cyclist .
Mattan turned pro in 1994 . For some time he had to interrupt his career because of heart problems.
He was considered a specialist in classic one-day races , but was also able to achieve good results in prologue time trials . He achieved one of his most important victories in 2005 at the ProTour race Gent-Wevelgem , although he benefited from a motorcycle, which brought him back to Juan Antonio Flecha , who already looked like the sure winner.
In 2000 Mattan was banned for four months for taking the illicit stimulant heptaminol .
After the 2007 season he ended his career.
