Nicolò Beregan
Nicolò Beregan (also Berengani , Bergani ; born February 21, 1627 in Vicenza , † December 17, 1713 in Venice ) was an Italian lawyer , poet and librettist .
Life
Beregan was one of the most famous lawyers in Venice and was also highly regarded as a writer and philologist . From 1656 to 1660 he lived in exile because of a personal feud with a German merchant. He was in contact with the imperial court in Vienna and corresponded with Duke Johann Friedrich von Braunschweig-Lüneburg , an important military and musical supporter of Venice.
Beregan's libretti , mostly written in a heroic style, were set to music by some of the most famous composers of his time and were used as models by later librettists such as Pietro Pariati .
