Nicola Dolores Schmidt (* 1977 in Munich ) is a German science journalist and bestselling author as well as the founder and managing director of Artrechte GmbH.

Life

Schmidt was born in 1977 as the daughter of the visual artist Johanna Schmidt and the social scientist Karl Stroetmann . From 1995 to 2000 she studied political science at the Free University of Berlin and trained as a science journalist in Munich, Paris and Dortmund .

From 2000 to 2003, Schmidt was a permanent editor at the specialist magazine Computer Reseller News in Munich. She then ran a freelance editorial office as a freelance journalist together with Elmar Török until 2009, which wrote for Focus Online , the Financial Times Deutschland and the Süddeutsche Zeitung , among others . Since then she has blogged and writes for specialist magazines. Schmidt published several bestsellers on child development from the perspective of behavior and evolutionary research .

Schmidt has two children and lives with her family near Bonn.

Act

In 2012, Schmidt founded the “species-appropriate project” to disseminate this knowledge and to support families. It combines upbringing and child development with questions of sustainability and ecology. It trains parents and professionals, especially midwives and child minders.

Schmidt's first non-fiction book ("Courage - how children grow beyond themselves") was published in 2014. It received greater attention for the "species-appropriate" guidebook from the years 2015, 2017 and 2018 from the Kösel publishing house : "Type-appropriate - the other baby book" followed by " Appropriate to species - the little baby book "and" Appropriate to species - the other toddler book " Together with co-author Julia Dibbern she wrote “Slow Family”, a plea for more mindfulness, time and trust in dealing with children, followed by “Wild World”, a guide to “relaxed parenting”. In 2017, Schmidt and psychologist Maryam Boos developed concrete project ideas on the subject of courage and violence prevention for specialists in day-care centers in “Courage - experience strong feelings” . With her Spiegel-Wissen bestseller “Geschwister als Team”, published in 2018, she also positioned herself in the media as an expert on educational issues. Current works of the year 2019 are a family calendar and the guidebook “Educate without scolding”, which also became a bestseller in Germany and Switzerland.
