Nicolae Mavrogheni
Nicolae Mavrogheni (Greek: Νικόλαος Μαυρογένης / Nikolaos Mavrogenis) (* 1735 in Paros ; † September 1790 in Bjala ) was a prince of Wallachia .
Life
Mavrogheni was born in Paros . He was a great-uncle of Manto Mavrogenous , a heroine of the Greek War of Independence . On April 6, 1786 he was appointed Prince of Wallachia. During the Russo-Austrian Turkish War , Mavrogheni fled Bucharest on October 26, 1789, accompanied by a thousand soldiers . However, he was killed on the run in September 1790 in Byala ; his head was sent to Constantinople and the rest of his body was buried on the banks of the Danube. His daughter, Eufrosina, later had his bones brought to the Church of the Holy Apostles in Bursa .
