Nicolae Proca (born December 13, 1925 in Slănic ; † July 9, 2007 ) was a Romanian football player and coach.

Athletic career

Proca made his debut in the late 1940s under coach Silviu Ploeşteanu for Steagul Roşu Braşov . With the club he rose in 1956 to Divizia A , in the season 1959/60 achieved the greatest success in the club's history in the national championship as runner-up behind Steaua Bucharest . The following year he won the first edition of the Balkan Cup with the team .

After the end of his career in 1961, Proca initially assisted Ploeşteanu, whom he inherited as head coach in 1968 after his departure to local rivals Tractorul Braşov due to relegation to the first division. In the course of the second division season 1968/69 he replaced Valentin Stănescu , under whose leadership the club rose to the top of the season again. In the summer of 1971 Stănescu went to Steaua Bucharest, Proca was again held responsible. In the 1973/74 season still third in the table and thus qualified for the European Cup, he missed relegation in the following season and was again released from his duties.

Proca later supervised Tractorul Brașov, and in 2004 he became an advisor to local competitor Forex Brașov .
