Nicolaes van Verendael
Nicolaes van Verendael , also van Veerendael (baptized February 19, 1640 in Antwerp ; buried August 11, 1691 ibid) was a Flemish painter .
Life
Verendael was the son and student of the painter Willem van Verendael . He succeeded Daniel Seghers .
At the age of 17 he became a member of the Guild of St. Luke in Antwerp . On March 20, 1669 he married Katharina (nee van Beveren). She was the daughter of the sculptor Matthijs van Beveren. This marriage resulted in ten children. This exacerbated the predicament the family suffered. Verendael died in debt and left them in poor conditions. He gained popularity in particular through pictures depicting flowers or fruit.
