Nicolaie Alexa (born December 2, 1961 - August 26, 2015 ) was a Romanian football player .
Athletic career
Alexa played in youth at LPS Iași and Luceafărul Bucharest before making his adult debut in 1980 under Mircea Lucescu at Corvinul Hunedoara . With the club he achieved the greatest success in club history to date in the 1981/82 season , when the team in Divizia A qualified third in the table for the European Cup. In the 1982/83 UEFA Cup , the club reached the second round after a first round win over the Austrian club Grazer AK , in which he was eliminated against the Yugoslav representative FK Sarajevo .
Later Alexa joined CSM Suceava in the Divizia B . Here, too, the goalkeeper was involved in the club's greatest success to date in 1987 when the team rose to the top division. As the bottom of the table of the season 1987/88 , however, the direct relegation took place. Then he was still with FC Inter Sibiu and FC Selena Bacau in the top division under contract. With the latter he reached the final of the Cupa României 1990/91 against Universitatea Craiova . In the 1: 2 final defeat, he was sent off the field . Since Craiova had won the double , the club was still eligible to participate in the 1991/92 European Cup Winners' Cup . Here the goalkeeper conceded a total of eleven goals against the eventual title winner Werder Bremen in the first round . In 1994 he moved within the first division to Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț , where he later ended his career.
Alexa died in the summer of 2015 at the age of 53 when he probably suffered a heart attack while playing a private tennis game .
