Nicolaikirche, Romanesque tower
Neo-Gothic choir

The Catholic St. Nicolai Church is a listed church building in Lippstadt , in the Soest district , in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The building was built in the second half of the 12th century as a Romanesque cross basilica . It was the oldest church in the city.

With the Reformation all parish churches in Lippstadt became Protestant. In 1802 St. Nicolai was left to the grown Catholic community.

When the church was no longer sufficient for the size of the community, it was demolished in 1872. Only the western central nave yoke with the mighty tower remained.

The Romanesque nave was replaced by a large neo-Gothic hall church with a two-bay choir and polygonal apse according to plans by the Paderborn cathedral builder Arnold Güldenpfennig .

organ

The organ was built by the organ building company Siegfried Sauer (Höxter). The slider chest instrument has 47 registers (3815 pipes) on three manuals and a pedal. The game actions are mechanical, the stop actions are electric.
