Nicolas Rapin (* 1535 in Fontenay-le-Comte ; † February 16, 1608 in Poitiers ) was a French writer.

life and work

Rapin fulfilled the kings Karl IX in crisis-ridden France . , Heinrich III. and Henry IV had high military, police and administrative duties and was a respected poet at court. He belonged to the so-called Parti des politiques (Party of Politicals), a group that tried to be neutral towards Protestants and Catholics during the Huguenot Wars . Among his poems are known: Vers mesurés rimés , Psaumes de La pénitence and Plaisirs d'un gentilhomme champêtre .

Rapin was together with Pierre Pithou , Jean Passerat , Florent Chrestien , Gilles Durant de la Bergerie (1554-1614) and Jacques Gillot (1550-1619) author of the Satyre Ménippée (1593), a (very successful) satirical pamphlet against the never-ending willing civil war and against the Holy League (1576) , as well as for the installation of a strong, third estate-weighted king, namely Henry IV.

Jean Brunel (* 1933) dedicated a Thèse (1988) supervised by Robert Aulotte to Rapin , which appeared in print in 2002. He had previously published the complete works critically (1982–1984).
