Nicolaus Eck
Nicolaus Eck (* 1541 in Riga ; † August 28, 1623 ibid) was the mayor and burgrave of Riga.
Life
Nicolaus Eck was a son of Eck Claus, * (* approx. 1505; † approx. 1557) and the NN Borgentreich.
In the years 1570 to 1580 he was mentioned in a document through various property and real estate matters in Riga, but had also been a councilor since 1576. In 1581 Eck became mayor and in 1583 also burgrave in Riga.
The introduction of the new calendar , sponsored by Eck, led to civil unrest in Riga on January 2, 1585 . It was u. a. devastated his apartment. Only after 14 days could the tumult be settled and, after a general amnesty was issued, Eck was also offered compensation. In March, however, the unrest broke out again and Eck had to exile from the city . In 1586, after the matter had come before the king to investigate and suppress the unrest in Riga , Eck returned to his offices and was awarded 10,000 guilders in damages .
However, the matter did not settle under the Catholic-Polish rule over the city. So he got involved in the dispute between Jakob Godemann and David Hilchen and was hated by the citizens because he stuck to Severin's contract . As a result, there were new accusations and accusations against Eck as well as further riots, so that he went into exile again in 1605. On royal orders he was restituted in 1612 and returned with his two equally escaped sons-in-law Rörtger to Horst and Thomas Ramme . Subsequently, the administration ran smoothly under his leadership. Eck donated a poor house for citizen widows, which continued under the name Ecks Konvent for a long time. After his death, Ecks was buried in the Riga Cathedral .

Nicolaus Eck is the ancestor of the later noble family von Ekesparre , his first marriage to Elisabeth Breul, daughter of the Rigian council secretary Bernt Breul and the NN Linden, his second marriage to Anna Schultze (* 1573; † 1618), daughter of the Rigian mayor Michael Schultze and Elisabeth von Romberg, married.
