Thomas von Ramm († February 16, 1631 ) was a German-Baltic mayor of Riga, an Estonian landowner and vice-president of the court in Dorpat .

Life

Ramm was a member of a German bourgeois council- seated family of Rigas , who appeared there since 1463. His father was Christofer Ramm († before March 8, 1572), mint master in the 3rd generation and councilor ibid. His mother Anna Kroeger had Lübeck roots.

In 1600 Ramm was councilor in Riga, but exiled in 1606 with his father-in-law, the mayor and royal burgrave Nicolaus Eck (1541–1623). In 1612 he returned there in full dignity on royal orders. From 1614 to 1617 Ramm was town bailiff, 1618 bailiff and then up to 1619 senior bailiff in Riga. As early as 1616 he was an envoy to the Reichstag in Warsaw and in 1618 to the Landtag Mitau . Also at the beginning of 1619 he became inspector of the Uexküll - Kirchholm property. In 1620 he was sent to the king in Vilnius .

As mayor, Ramm led the defense during the Swedish siege in 1621 and the negotiations with King Gustav II Adolph about Riga's submission. Mayor he remained until 1631. He inherited his father-in-law's house on Sünderstraße in Riga and from 1630 was vice-president of the court in Dorpat.

Ramm was married twice. His first marriage was around 1595/1600 Anna Eck († before 1627), daughter of the Riga mayor Nicolaus Eck (actually Eke; 1541-1623) and Anna Schulte. Therefore, he was also a brother-in-law of the Riga bailiff Rutger (Rötger) zur Horst († 1632) and the elder of the Great Guild , Joachim Welling (1587-1636).

He signed a second marriage in 1627 with Margaretha von Fahrensbach . He left a son Claus von Ramm († 1684), whose descendants were enrolled in the Estonian knighthood in 1746 and managed the Padis property awarded to Ramm until 1919.

Thomas von Ramm was buried in Reval on June 27, 1632 .
