Nicolay Nicolaysen
Nicolay Nicolaysen (born January 14, 1817 in Bergen (Norway) , † January 22, 1911 in Kristiania ) was a Norwegian archaeologist and lawyer .
Nicolay Nicolaysen worked for the private Norwegian antiquity association Foreningen til norske Fortidsminnesmerkers Bevaring , which campaigned for the preservation of Norwegian architectural monuments and, for example, saved many of the well-known Norwegian stave churches from demolition. He is best known for his excavation of the Gokstad ship and directing the relocation of Gol Stave Church .
