Playhouse (1975)

On April 10, 1921, the opening performance in the Kieler Schauspielhaus with the one-act plays Doggerbank and Cilli Cohrs by Gorch Fock and Dat Schattenspeel by Hermann Boßdorf took place. For the 10th anniversary of the stage, 72 pieces (some of which were premieres) had already been played. On January 13, 1937, the Low German Volksoper De Uglei by Paul Wittmaack premiered for the first and only time . Game operations can be continued until the end of the 1943/44 season. In the following year, all theaters in Kiel were closed. In August 1945, the stage manager Karl Wedemeyer received the approval - as the first theater in northern Germany at all - to carry out public theater performances in the "Theater am Wilhelmplatz". On August 23, 1945, the 1945/46 season opened with the piece Dumen op'n Büdel . The Kieler Niederdeutsche Bühne began operating as an independent company with permanently engaged actors. After four years, on May 21, 1949, the NBK had to file for bankruptcy due to the constant decline in visitors. In the same year, on the initiative of Gerhard Cordes, the Low German Stage was re-established as an association. It was played on Wilhelmplatz for another ten years, and from 1959 in the Schauspielhaus. The contract concluded in October 1977, which regulated the relationship between the stage and the stages of the state capital Kiel, was terminated at the end of the 1994/95 season. The Niederdeutsche Bühne Kiel lost its venue. In August 1995, the theater on Wilhelmplatz was rented and the renovation work started in-house. On October 18, 1995, a cooperation agreement was signed between the city of Kiel and the Niederdeutsche Bühne. The stage was thus placed in personal responsibility. On the 75th anniversary in April 1996, the Low German Stage Kiel played Katharina Knie by Carl Zuckmayer , in Low German by Heinz Busch . Heinz Busch celebrated his 50th stage anniversary in the role of Karl Knie. In the following years, necessary repair work and the expansion of the premises were carried out. The number of viewers could be increased continuously. On April 26, 2001, the NBK officially celebrated its 80th stage anniversary with the premiere of the play Johannisfüer by Hermann Sudermann , staged by Jutta Kessal.
