The Procumbent globe amaranth ( Gomphrena decumbens ) is a plant type from the family of amaranthaceae (Amaranthaceae).
features
The prostrate amaranth is a prostrate, richly branched, annual plant . It is up to 15 centimeters high and 10 to 50 centimeters long. The leaves are elongated, blunt or pointed and prickly. Their underside is hairy. They measure 4.5 to 8 × 1.5 to 2 centimeters. The inflorescence is initially spherical, later more or less cylindrical, and colored white, pink or yellow.
The flowering period extends from July to October.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
Occurrence
The lower spherical amaranth occurs in Mexico , Guatemala , the Antilles , Bolivia and Paraguay in dry bushes as well as on pastures and wasteland.

The lying globe amaranth is rarely used as an ornamental plant for summer borders.
