The low devil's claw ( Phyteuma humile ), also called low rapunzel , is a species of the devil's claw ( Phyteuma ) within the bellflower family (Campanulaceae).

Vegetative characteristics
The low devil's claw is a perennial herbaceous plant .
Generative characteristics
The inflorescence has a diameter of 15 to 30 millimeters. The bracts are long pointed from their egg-shaped base and often longer than the head-shaped inflorescence. The dark blue-violet corolla is 10 to 15 millimeters long.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28.
Occurrence
The low devil's claw occurs in the Pennine West Alps from south-eastern France via Switzerland ( canton Valais ) to northern Italy . It thrives on rocky, rocky, silicate grasslands at altitudes from 1800 to over 2600 meters. It finds its optimum in societies of the sub-association Androsacenion vandellii.
Taxonomy
The first description of Phyteuma humile was made in 1810 by Schleicher in Murith : Le Guide du Botaniste qui voyage dans le Valais: avec un catalog des Plantes de ce pays et de ses environs, auquel on a joint les lieux de naissance et l'époque de la fleuraison pour chaque espèce.
