The Niels-Stensen-Kliniken GmbH is a church association of health facilities in the Osnabrück / Emsland area. Around 6000 employees care for more than 250,000 patients annually in its 14 facilities.

history

In 2002 the “Management Company of Catholic Hospitals in the Osnabrück Region mbH” (MKO) was founded. The founding partners were the Episcopal See of Osnabrück and the religious order of the Thuiner Franciscan Sisters . The Marienhospital Osnabrück , the Franziskus-Hospital Harderberg Georgsmarienhütte and the Hospital St. Raphael Ostercappeln were merged .

In January 2004, a joint holding was founded, which also included the newly built nursing home Haus St. Michael Ostercappeln.

In 2007 the nursing schools of the hospitals were merged. As the Niels Stensen Education Center, they are now the largest center for training, further education and training for health professions in Lower Saxony.

The Magdalenen Clinic, a specialist clinic for mental and psychosomatic illnesses, was founded in autumn 2008.

On October 1st, the "MKO" was renamed and has since been called "Niels-Stensen-Kliniken GmbH". The common commitment in the health sector is emphasized by the uniform name, which is part of the name of all institutions. At the same time, the new name also conveys the philosophy of the carrier association more clearly. The eponym of the association, the blessed Niels Stensen , stands with his biography for the connection of medicine and science with theology and pastoral care. He was a famous 17th century scientist. As a priest and bishop, he was driven by concern for the people in their needs.

The logo of the Niels-Stensen-Kliniken takes up elements from the life of Blessed Niels Stensen and Saint Francis of Assisi , who is the patron saint of the Thuin Franciscan Sisters. For the faith in Christ as the root of charitable action and the compassionate heart, which includes the consistent focus on fellow human beings, the cross and heart are in the logo.

On January 1, 2009, the Christian Clinic Melle joined the association and the previous sponsor of this house, the Christian Health and Care Center Melle GmbH, became a partner in Niels-Stensen-Kliniken GmbH. On January 1st, 2010 the Marienhospital Ankum - Bersenbrück and the Niels Stensen Care Center in Ankum joined the association; its previous sponsor, the Catholic parish of St. Nikolaus Ankum, became a further partner in Niels-Stensen-Kliniken GmbH. On May 1, 2010, Niels-Stensen-Kliniken GmbH became the main shareholder of the carrier GmbH of the Bramscher Hospital, which until then had been supported by Johanniter GmbH, Berlin. The house changed its name with the owner and was renamed Niels-Stensen-Kliniken Bramsche.

On January 1, 2018, the St. Vinzenz Hospital Haselünne, the Elisabeth Hospital Thuine, the Hospice St. Veronika and the specialist care facility St. Katharina Thuine joined the association.

In November 2019 it became known that the Paracelsus Clinic Osnabrück had been bought up by the Niels Stensen Clinics. In the future, it will be called Niels-Stensen-Kliniken am Natruper Holz and will later be incorporated into a planned extension of the Marienhospital Osnabrück. In addition, the Niels-Stensen-Kliniken want to work together with the Paracelsus-Kliniken in the field of digitization.
