Nienwedel is a district of the town of Hitzacker (Elbe) in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony . The Rundangerdorf is located 1.5 km east of the core area of Hitzacker.
The village was founded on a small land in the Elbe. The nearby lower course of the Jeetzel with its floodplain is separated from the locality by a dike, as is the Elbe in the north.
history
Nienwedel was originally called Niendorf and was renamed on March 16, 1936 to avoid confusion with places of the same name. With sector-shaped courtyard parcels and gabled hall houses, the settlement has some round features. Courtyard No. 4 (built in 1797) was last lost from the historical structure in November 2009 due to fire.
On July 1, 1972, the municipality of Nienwedel was incorporated into Hitzacker together with the municipalities of Bahrendorf , Grabau , Harlingen , Kähmen , Seerau , Tießau , Wietzetze and Wussegel .
