Tießau is a district of the town of Hitzacker (Elbe) in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony . The place is 4 km northwest of the core area of Hitzacker on Elbuferstraße. The Elbe flows northeast at a short distance.
Tießau is located in the Lower Saxony Elbe Valley Biosphere Reserve .
history
On July 1, 1972, the municipality of Tießau was incorporated into Hitzacker together with the municipalities of Bahrendorf , Grabau, Harlingen, Kähmen, Nienwedel, Seerau, Wietzetze and Wussegel.
During the division of Germany , Tießau was regularly mentioned on the radio: Here was a measuring point for the depth of the Elbe, which was relevant for inland waterways when using the river that formed the GDR border at the time .
