Nigel Williams
Nigel Williams (born January 20, 1948 in Cheadle , Cheshire , Great Britain ) is a British writer who works for radio and television . He is also the author of several novels, children's books and plays.
Life
Nigel Williams was born the son of a school principal. After studying at the Highgate School and Oriel College of Oxford University , he worked as a lecturer at Oriel College. With his play Klassen Feind ( Class Enemy ), which was voted the most important play of 1978 in England, he achieved his breakthrough as a playwright. It premiered on March 9, 1978 at the Royal Court Theater , London. The German premiere took place on April 23, 1981 at the Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer in Berlin under the direction of Peter Stein .
In 1994 he won one of the most important British television awards for his television adaptation of William Horwood's Skallagrigg with the BAFTA . His most successful work to date was the English television play Elizabeth I , for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award . His first novella, My Life Closed Twice , won the Somerset Maugham Award in 1974 .
His dramatization of the novel by William Golding , The Lord of the Flies ( Lord of the Flies , premiere : July 31, 1995, Royal Shakespeare Company at The Other Place, Stratford-upon-Avon; DSE : 23. January 1999, Rheinisches Landestheater Neuss ).
Only a very manageable part of Nigel Williams' work was translated into German or is being published in Germany, including two and a half men in a boat (original title: Two and a half men in a boat ), in which the author wrote the well-known humorous travel story Drei Mann in emulated a boat by the British author Jerome K. Jerome 100 years later with friends and analyzed the literary source.
Nigel Williams is married and has three sons. He lives in Putney , in south west London .
