Niklas Schrader (born October 25, 1981 in Berlin ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ) and has been a member of the Berlin House of Representatives since its election on September 18, 2016 .

biography

Niklas Schrader completed his Abitur in Berlin-Steglitz and did his community service in the emergency service for those at risk and addicts. He then studied social sciences in Berlin and London. After his studies he worked for the parliamentary group Die Linke in the House of Representatives as a consultant for domestic and legal policy, constitutional protection and data protection as well as for refugee policy.

He is a member of the Humanist Union , the service union ver.di , the Law Enforcement Against Prohibition , and a supporting member of the anti-fascist press archive and education center .

MP

When he was elected to the Berlin House of Representatives, he was elected to the House of Representatives from his party's state list. He is a member of the parliamentary group's executive committee and is a spokesman for the parliamentary group on the topics of domestic policy and drug policy. On January 22, 2019, Schrader, Hakan Taş's successor , was confirmed as domestic political spokesman for the parliamentary group and the new function was combined with his previous spokesperson for the protection of the constitution. On May 21, 2019 , Sebastian Schluesselburg took over the role of Schrader’s data protection spokesperson on behalf of the Berlin left-wing parliamentary group.

Schrader sits for his parliamentary group in the committees for home affairs, security and order, for the protection of the constitution and for constitutional and legal affairs, rules of procedure, consumer protection and anti-discrimination. With the constituent meeting on July 14, 2017, he is also a member of the 1st investigation committee "Terrorist attack Breitscheidplatz" .

Political positions

By calling for a move away from zero tolerance zones for the sale and consumption of cannabis, Niklas Schrader advocates the liberalization of drug policy , which in addition to the state-controlled sale of cannabis as in California , the emergence of cannabis social clubs and the expansion of addiction prevention , and the reduction of repression against addicts. In this context he is also a member of LEAP ( Law Enforcement Against Prohibition ) Germany e. V. , which advocates the legalization of drugs .

As part of the nationwide investigation of the NSU terror series , Schrader advocates better processing of the extreme right-wing network and the establishment of a committee of inquiry in Berlin.

In connection with the debate about the tightening of police laws, he also pleads for a review of the effectiveness of newly created powers to intervene in civil rights or for a proportionality check of the interventions, taking into account their risks, e.g. B. through extensive video surveillance with the right to informational self-determination .
