Niklaus Bluntschli

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Niklaus Bluntschli (* before 1525 in Zurich ; † 1605 there ) was a Swiss glass painter .

Niklaus Bluntschli was a son of the glass painter Rudolf Bluntschli († 1565), with whom he presumably also learned the craft of glass painting; his brother Hans Balthasar Bluntschli (1529–1587) also worked in this profession. Niklaus Bluntschli took over his father's workshop. In 1566 he became a member of the guild of the Meisen . In Zurich he was considered a "secret Catholic " (1658 bailiff of Schänis Monastery ) and was particularly popular with Catholic clients.

He signed with the monogram NB . Signed disks, often with motifs based on designs by Albrecht Dürer , are still preserved in the monasteries of Muri (1557), Tänikon (1558–59) and Wettingen (1557–63).
