Niklaus of Meran

Niklaus von Meran (* around 1440 in Lucerne ; † 1493 in Lucerne) was a merchant, small councilor , governor and delegate of the daily articles .

Life

He was the son of the Lucerne councilor Hans von Meran and Anna, nee. Kilchmeyer. He was married to Verena Seiler, a sister of Ludwig Seiler (cloth wholesaler, financier and landlord of the Gasthof Krone in Lucerne).

A daughter of Niklaus and Verena von Meran, Dorothea, married the Lucerne patrician Jakob Feer .

Services

Niklaus von Meran was a wealthy wholesaler. From 1476 he was ministerial councilor in Lucerne, 1475–77 and 1489–91 Vogt von Weggis , 1477–93 Umgeldner (tax collector), 1479–81 as well as 1487–89 and 1491–93 Sentispitalmeister (administrator / head of the Lucerne Senti-Spital), 1481–83 Vogt von Habsburg- Root , 1482 council judge and 1487 master builder on the Emme.

He was several times Tagsatzung envoy and council deputy, including 1,492 to the federal renovation of Glarus . He was a member of the court for over 20 years.
