The Nikola Tesla Memorial Museum is a cultural and historical institution in Smiljan in Croatia , the birthplace of Nikola Tesla . The complex combines science , art and tourism . It is located under the administrative management of the “Lika Museum” in Gospić , the seat of the Lika-Senj County ( Central Croatia ).
The memorial museum is dedicated to the inventor , physicist and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla, who was born into a Serbian family in Croatia in 1856 , at the time within the Habsburg Monarchy , and who became known as a US citizen with his work.
The Smiljan facility was built in 2006 and opened on July 10, 2006, on Tesla's 150th birthday. The concept of the memorial center encompasses various fields: Tesla's birthplace with the permanent exhibition, the Orthodox St. Peter and Paul Church next to it , the old local cemetery, stone monuments and benches by the architect Zdenko Kolacio, a Tesla statue by the sculptor Mile Blažević, the auditorium , prototypes of Tesla's inventions and a multimedia center.
Various technical and educational activities and manifestations are occasionally organized in the museum . The site is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday for regular visitor entry.
