Nikola Pokrivač (born November 26, 1985 in Čakovec ) is a Croatian football player .
Career
Pokrivač first joined his hometown club NK Čakovec as a child . Later he moved to the first division club NK Varteks Varaždin , where he played his way up from youth to the first team. At a young age he made his debut in the Croatian first division and as a 20-year-old was already a regular at Varteks. With the club he was fifth and fourth in the league from 2004 to 2006 and also took part in the qualifying competitions for the UEFA Cup without qualifying.
After another six months in Varaždin, he was poached by the then reigning Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb , where he immediately returned to a regular position in the midfield. At the end of the season, Pokrivač won the Croatian championship and the national cup.
Through his international appearances in Champions League qualifications and the UEFA Cup, foreign clubs quickly became aware of the Croatian and after his second half year in Zagreb, in which the more centrally defensive player also demonstrated offensive qualities with five league goals, he left in the winter break to AS Monaco in the first division of France.
Nikola Pokrivač has also been a candidate for the Croatian Football Association's national team since 2001. He was often used in the U-17 and U-19 national teams and continued in the U21 in 2005/2006. For the senior national team , however, he was used for the first time on May 24, 2008 in a preparatory game immediately before the European Football Championship in 2008 in Austria and Switzerland. It was therefore a bit of a surprise that he was immediately accepted into Croatia 's EM squad as a newcomer . He even played 90 minutes in the European Championship group game against Poland , which Croatia won 1-0.
For the 2009/10 season he moved to the reigning Austrian champions FC Red Bull Salzburg . With the Salzburg team he won all group games of the UEFA Europa League in autumn 2009 , but was eliminated one round later against Standard Liège . Under coach Huub Stevens he enjoyed the status of a regular player and was able to celebrate the championship title with the team in 2010. After the change of coach, Nikola quickly became a spectator and no longer plays a role in the system of the new coach Ricardo Moniz . Since summer 2011 he has been able to look for a new club if a corresponding offer is made.
