Nikolai Andreew Stojanow ( Bulgarian Николай Андреев Стоянов ; born November 9, 1883 in Garten , Russian Empire ; † October 9, 1968 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian botanist . Its botanical author's abbreviation is “ Stoj. ".

Life

Stoyanov studied from 1903 at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute of Agriculture . In 1906 he was banned for revolutionary activities. In 1909 he emigrated to Bulgaria and studied natural sciences there. In Germany , Great Britain and Austria he specialized in botany . From 1951 to 1962 he was the director of the Bulgarian Institute of Botany. He was also secretary of the Class of Biological and Medical Sciences of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences from 1951 to 1956 and Scientific Secretary General of the Academy from 1956 to 1959.

In his scientific work he dealt with geobotany and the systematics of plants. In total, he published more than 150 scientific papers.

He was awarded the Order of Georgi Dimitrov and the Dimitrov Prize .
