Nikolai Ivanovich Swiridow

Nikolai Ivanovich Swiridow ( Russian: Николай Иванович Свиридов , English transcription Nikolay Sviridov; born July 6, 1938 in Staraya Weduga , Voronezh Oblast ) is a former Russian long-distance runner who started for the Soviet Union .

In 1968 he was fifth over 10,000 m and seventh over 5000 m at the Olympic Games in Mexico City .

At the European Athletics Championships in Athens in 1969, he won bronze over 10,000 m . In 1970 he was fourth over 3000 m at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Vienna and second over 10,000 m at the European Athletics Cup in Stockholm . In 1971 he came in 18th place at the European Championships in Helsinki over 10,000 m .

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he was eighth over 5000 m .

In 1973 he was ninth at the World Cross Country Championships in Waregem and won silver with the Soviet team. At the European Athletics Cup in Edinburgh , he won over 10,000 m.

In 1973 he became the Soviet champion over 10,000 m.
