The Nikolaiberg is a 268 meter high hill in the 13th district of Hietzing in Vienna and rises about 100 meters above the Wiental.

geography

The Nikolaiberg is located in the northern part of Hietzing on the north-eastern edge of the Lainzer Tiergarten . The wooded Nikolaiberg is bounded in the north by the Vienna , in the south lies the Hagenberg . On the southwest slope of the mountain lies the Hackinger Wiese, in the southeast the Nikolaiwiese with the Nikolaikapelle of the same name . The Lainzer Tunnel of the Western Railway runs under part of the Nikolaiberg .

history

Nikolaiberg was first mentioned in a document in 1788 and is named after the nearby chapel. The chapel was mentioned in a document as early as 1321 and belonged to the Hütteldorf parish for centuries . The church, partly built in the Romanesque style, came to the Lainzer Tiergarten in 1833 together with the surrounding area.
