Nikolaos Syllas

Nikolaos "Nikos" Syllas ( Greek Νικόλαος "Νίκος" Σύλλας ; born November 30, 1914 in Kallimasia on the island of Chios ; † August 17, 1986 ) was a Greek discus thrower , participant in the Olympic Games , multiple Greek champion and multiple holder of the national record.

  • Balkan Games 1932 in Athens : Winner with 42.08 m (Greek record)
  • Greek Championships 1934 (Πανελλήνιοι αγώνες): Winner with 44.13 m (Greek record)
  • Balkan Games 1934 in Zagreb : Winner with 48.54 m (Greek record, 10th best distance in Europe and 13th worldwide)
  • 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin: sixth with 47.75 m
  • In the same year he reached 49.35 m in Stockholm
  • Eight times winner of the Balkan Games from 1932 to 1940 with one interruption
  • Winner of the British Athletics Championships in 1937 and 1939
  • 1939: In a competition in September he reached his personal best with 52.38 m. All 6 throws went over 50 meters. Willy Schröder's world record at the time was 53.10 m.
