Nikolaus Glossenus

Nikolaus Glossenus ( also Clossenus ; * around 1510 in Hamburg ; † July 6, 1547 in Magdeburg ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

Glossenus only emerged as a Wittenberg Magister who had started his studies there on March 26, 1527. Perhaps he is identical to Nikolaus Cördes in Hamburg. On July 9, 1533, the city council of Reval appointed him as superintendent on Martin Luther's recommendation . They had rejected four candidates earlier. Glossenus accepted and stayed in the Hanseatic city for four years.

When the University of Greifswald was reopened as a Lutheran university in 1539, Glossenus had better prospects there. First he went to Greifswald as provost , then he received the position that Johannes Knipstro held before him and was appointed first professor that same year. But even this position did not satisfy him for long. When Nikolaus von Amsdorf went to Naumburg (Saale) and his position in Magdeburg became vacant, Glossenus became his successor in 1544.
