Nikolaus Monzel (born June 9, 1906 in Siegburg  , † November 14, 1960 in Munich ) was a German theologian and sociologist .

Monzel received his doctorate (theology) at the University of Bonn in 1939 and completed his habilitation there in 1943. From 1948 he was Professor of Christian Social Studies and General Religious Sociology , first in Bonn and from 1955 at the University of Munich .

In his sociology of religion, Monzel leaned on Max Weber's methodology and compared Christian with non-Christian religions. With the help of ideal-typical assumptions, he investigated the relationships between religiously determined values ​​and actual social behavior .
