Mambächel was a place north of Baumholder , which was evacuated in 1938 when the Baumholder military training area was built and turned into a desert . In 1933 the place still had 620 inhabitants.

Mambächel was first mentioned in 633. Until the end of the 18th century, the place belonged to the Duchy of Palatinate-Zweibrücken and was assigned to the Baumholder mayor in the Oberamt Meisenheim . In 1790 85 families lived in the village of Mambächel and the associated hamlet of Mambächeler Höfe. The district covered around 1200 hectares . During the so-called French era , the municipality of Mambächel belonged to the canton of Baumholder in the Saardepartement from 1798 to 1814 . In 1817 he was part of the Saxon-Coburg principality of Lichtenberg and came with this in 1834 to the Prussian district of St. Wendel in the Rhine province .

The inhabitants belonged to the Reformed Church and were parish in Baumholder. In the 16th century a branch church of Baumholder is occupied in the place. Most recently they belonged to the Evangelical parish Baumholder.

The Mambächeler Hof, located northeast of the village, last consisted of twelve houses and was a spin-off by villagers from the main town, which was established between 1750 and 1770. This settlement also went under with the establishment of the military training area.
