Live and act

Nikolaus Wulf was the son of Hennike Wulf, a citizen of Rendsburg, and his wife Margarete. He is first documented as a cleric in the Archdiocese of Bremen. Appointed as a candidate for the archdeaconate in Schleswig in 1417 , he only took over this position after a long stay at the curia on November 3, 1425. Then on February 21, 1424 he took over the canonical and the prebend in Ösel and on December 23, 1426 a vicarie at the Marienkirche in Lübeck .

On January 31, 1429 Pope Martin V. Wulf installed as the new bishop of Schleswig. In disputes with King Erik VII , he represented the positions of the Counts of Holstein, which Erik VII complained about at the Council of Basel . Wulf belonged to the councilors of the Dukes Adolf VIII and Gerhard VII , to whom he left the regained Schwabstedt Castle . As bishop he represented both dukes at the peace treaty of Vordingborg .

In 1460 Wulf played a decisive role in the election of Christian I as Duke of Schleswig and Count of Holstein. Then he announced the election result in the town hall of Ripen . In 1466 he participated as a delegate of the duchy at the conclusion of the Kolding Union.

During his years in the administration of the diocese, Wulf did well. The ownership of the bishop and the chapter grew significantly through purchases and pledges. Wulf had registers kept about this, of which the Registrum censualis episcopi from 1462 still exists. In 1461 the bishop donated the editing of the chapter in Schleswig as well as several preambles for the collegiate chapter in Hadersleben . In 1465 he donated a lecture to the collegiate chapter in Hadersleben and appointed Jacob Horstmann .

Wulf's term of office ended in 1474. The pension he was entitled to was apparently embezzled, so that he died in early 1481, impoverished.
