Nili (Dari: نیلی) is the capital of the Nili District and Daikondi Province in Afghanistan . The city of Nili is located at an altitude of 2022 m. The Nili airfield is located in the immediate vicinity of the city. The weather conditions in winter are very severe and the city is then difficult to reach by road.

Due to the geographical inaccessibility and the acute security problems of Nili, the United Nations opened an office of the UNAMA ( United Nations Support Mission in Afghanistan ) in Nili in April 2007 . The city is almost in the geographical center of the country and the Hazarajat region . The entire population of the district and the city is made up of the Hazara ethnic group .

In December 2008, Azra Jafari was named mayor of Nili by President Hamid Karzai , making it the first female mayor of Afghanistan.

The city of Nili has 17,946 inhabitants (2015 estimate) and a total area of ​​9,022 hectares. There are a total of 1,994 apartments in Nili City.

Nili is an urban village in central Afghanistan where most of the country (98%) is undeveloped. Barren land has the largest proportion, accounting for 79% of the total land area. There are only 239 hectares of built-up land, of which 35% is residential and 40% is undeveloped.
