Nilo Murtinho Braga , called Nilo , (born April 3, 1903 in Rio de Janeiro , † February 5, 1975 ibid) was a Brazilian national soccer player . His game was characterized by his speed, skill and ease of scoring goals.

career

Nilo started his career as a teenager with Fluminense from Rio de Janeiro . He had his first game in top division football at the age of fifteen with América FC (RN). At nineteen, he joined local rivals Botafogo. His Omkel Oldemar Murtinho, active as a supervisor at Botafogo, recruited him. After his uncle had left Botafogo in a dispute, Nilo left after only two years and joined the two-tier club SC Brasil . In 1924 Nilo moved again and went to Fluminense Rio de Janeiro . Five years after leaving Botafogo, he returned to his old place of work in 1927. With the team he was able to win the state championship in Rio de Janeiro five times in six years . He remained loyal to Botafogo until the end of his career at the age of 35. He is said to have scored 184 goals in 201 games for the club. In 1927 alone, Nilo scored 30 of Botafogo's 67 goals, four of them in the highest victory over Flamengo Rio de Janeiro with 9: 2 to date (as of August 2018) . In the 1927 season, Nilton averaged 1.5 goals per game, 42 goals in 28 games. On May 16, 1938, Nilo played his last competitive game against Olaria AC .

National team

His career in the national team began with the Campeonato Sudamericano in 1923 . Here he was fourth with the team. In the same competition in 1925 he was second with the team. He was a member of the team at the Football World Cup in 1930 and was used in the game against Yugoslavia on July 14 (1: 2). In 1931 he won the Copa Río Branco with the national team.
