Nils Thürey

Nils Thürey (born July 6, 1979 in Braunschweig ) is a German computer scientist .

Nils Thürey graduated from the International German School in The Hague in 1998 . He studied at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and received his doctorate there in 2006. Until 2010 he worked as a post-doctoral student at ETH Zurich in collaboration with Ageia / Nvidia . Then he was Research & Development Lead at ScanlineVFX. Since autumn 2013 he has been professor in the field of games engineering at the Faculty of Computer Science at the Technical University of Munich .

In 2012 he received the Technical Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences together with Theo Kim, Markus Gross and Doug James for the development of a method for the efficient and effective simulation of smoke and explosion effects.
