Nina Clarkin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carina "Nina" Clarkin , b. Vestey, (* 1982) is an English polo player . With her handicap of 4, she is considered the best polo player in the country and is also one of the world's best. The AAP gave her a handicap of 9 for all women’s tournaments (as of January 2011).

Nina Clarkin's interest in polo was sparked by her family: her father, Mark Vestey, was a player with a handicap of 4 before a riding accident forced him into a wheelchair. Her uncle, Samuel Vestey, 3rd Baron Vestey , also played. Clarkin started riding at the age of two when her mother, also a rider, put her on a horse. She started playing polo when she was six.

In 2003 she won the Veuve Cliquot Gold Cup as a team with her future husband John-Paul Clarkin and the brothers Mark and Luke Tomlinson . Besides England, Clarkin plays in Argentina and New Zealand.

In 2006 she married John-Paul Clarkin from New Zealand . Her sister is Tamara Vestey, also a polo player.
