Samuel George Armstrong Vestey, 3rd Baron Vestey , KCVO , GCStJ (born March 19, 1941 ) is a British nobleman , businessman and court official.

Life

He is the eldest son of William Howarth Vestey and his wife Helen Armstrong. His paternal grandfather was Samuel Vestey, 2nd Baron Vestey . Since his father had died in Italy during World War II in 1944, he inherited his grandfather's title of nobility, Baron Vestey, when his grandfather died in 1954 . His maternal great-grandmother was the world-famous opera singer Nellie Melba . He attended Eton College and then served as a lieutenant in the Scots Guards .

He then joined the family-owned Vestey Group , of which he has been Chairman since 1995. The company is mainly active in the food industry and in particular in the international beef trade.

Until 1998, the Vestey Group was involved in shipping via the Blue Star Line . The container service of the traditional Blue Star Line was sold to P&O , which merged with Maersk . The group also owns large cattle farms in Australia and South America. With £ 850m in net worth , Vestey is ranked 78th on the 2007 Sunday Times Rich List , which lists the wealthiest people in the UK .

From 1988 to 1991 he was Chancellor of the British Order of Saint John . Subsequently, he held the office of Lord Prior until 2002 , the second highest office in the order after the Grand Prior. Vestey has also been Master of the Horse at the British Court since 1999 . Today it is an office with essentially ceremonial tasks; the Master of the Horse is formally responsible for the Royal Mews and all ceremonies involving horses. This includes in particular Trooping the Color , in which the Master of the Horse always takes part on horseback.

Vestey resides on the family's ancestral home , Stowell Park Estate , in the Cotswolds , Gloucestershire , which includes 15 square miles of land. His wife Celia is one of Prince Harry's godmothers .
