Nino Luraghi

Nino Luraghi (born November 30, 1964 ) is an Italian ancient historian .

Luraghi was born as the son of the resistance fighter and historian Raimondo Luraghi and studied in Venice and Rome, where he received his doctorate in 1992 with a thesis on archaic tyranny . From 1995 to 1997 he was an Alexander von Humboldt fellow at the University of Freiburg , then until 1999 as a research assistant. In addition, from 1997 to 1999 he was Assistant Professor of Ancient History at the University of Parma . From 1999 to 2003 Luraghi was Professor at Harvard University , 2003 to 2004 at the University of Toronto . In 2005 he returned to Harvard University. Since 2008 he has been Professor of Classics at Princeton University , since 2009 as D. Magie Professor of Classics . He turned down offers to the University of Konstanz and the University of Freiburg in 2004 and 2009, respectively. In summer 2018 he became Wykeham Professor of Ancient History at the Oxford University in the UK.

Luraghi is one of the leading international experts on Greek history in Archaic , Classical and Hellenistic periods . His research focuses on ancient historiography , tyranny and the history of Sparta and Messenia .
