Nivard Dierer (born August 1, 1642 in Steyr ; † March 11, 1715 ) was abbot of Schlierbach Abbey .

Life

Born as the son of a Steyr hammer smith, Dierer joined Schlierbach Abbey in 1660 and was employed in parish pastoral care until he was elected abbot in 1696. As the last of the three Schlierbach “building prelates”, he had the new baroque construction of the monastery buildings completed; the abundant baroque furnishings of the monastery church in particular can be traced back to him. In the new buildings, the two wings of the Johanneshof with the representative ballroom and the summer prelature go back to him, as well as the magnificent library, completed in 1712, in whose stucco you can still see his coat of arms with the fire-breathing Pantier (after his birthplace Steyr). The Hofrichterhaus, also built by him, later housed the elementary school.

In 1699 Abbot Dierer traveled to the General Chapter in Cîteaux as a representative of the Austrian Cistercian abbots and in 1705 donated the so-called abbot consecration to the Holy Cross Abbot Gerhard Weixelberger . Paralyzed by a stroke in the last years of his life , he died on March 11, 1715.
