Nix festival is a German comedy - miniseries of 2018. The four half-hour episodes were ZDFneo broadcast. The series is about a shared apartment in Berlin.

action

The series is about a flat share of around 30 in an old building in Berlin. The focus is on the two unsuccessful authors Wiebke Busch and Jonas Renner, once lovers, today only colleagues. They have been trying to gain a foothold in Berlin for several years, but none of their ideas hit the nerve of the times or the broadcaster. The promiscuous , homosexual cook Basti Hülz, who has also kept himself afloat with mini jobs for years, as well as the always positive, somewhat esoteric student Jenny Reimann lives in the shared apartment . The regular pub is Lennart's Café, run by the eternally grumpy Lennart Heusser, once the author of a relationship guide, whose marriage, however, quickly collapsed after the book was published.

All main characters are in a kind of limbo in which they neither want to succeed professionally nor in terms of their relationships.

occupation

Jonas Renner (played by Sebastian Fräsdorf ), 32, is an unsuccessful author who once had a relationship with Wiebke Busch, which however failed. Together with her, he tries his hand at various scripts, all of which, however, were rejected by the television companies. He had success with two scripts for shows by Helene Fischer , otherwise he had money worries and an unfulfilled love life.

Wiebke Busch (played by Josefine Preuß ), 31, is also an unsuccessful author who, with her ironic-sarcastic nature, keeps people away from her and thus also throws one or the other job offer in the sand. Her love life is also currently on the back burner.

Basti Hülz (played by Tim Kalkhof ), 32, is Jonas's roommate and best friend. He hangs out in the gay party scene and brings home new sexual partners almost every night. He usually avoids serious relationships. Professionally, the trained chef was never able to gain a foothold in Berlin and keeps afloat with odd jobs.

Jenny Reimann (played by Marie Rathscheck ), 24, is a student who leads a rather volatile life. Always positive tries among other vegan dog biscuits or YouTube - Yoga to earn extra income sessions. She falls in love quickly, although the choice of her beloved in the flat often causes head shaking.

Lennart Heusser (played by Dirk Martens ), 48, runs Lennarts Café, a neighborhood café with a few regulars. He used to write a relationship guide that he still draws on today.

Finally, Wiebke and Jonas succeed in getting a script to the man. Unfortunately, this is one that they no longer have any memory of. Both suffer from writer's block until they decide to address their own screwed-up relationship. Meanwhile, Basti's aunt appears, who once supported him financially. Out of sheer desperation, he pretends that Lennart's café belongs to him. This tries to get to Basti's aunt. When the fraud is discovered, Aunt Basti still offers a job in Mannheim. Wiebke and Jonas' script ultimately fails due to the tax investigation that arrests the producer. At the end of the episode, Basti actually moves to Mannheim.

Reviews and reception

The weekly audience ratings were below the ZDFneo market share. The series also aired one episode later each week.

The reviews were also rather restrained. In her review for FAZ.net, Heike Hupertz described the series as a “successful case for Berlin haters and prejudice nurses”. The series "look away, but nothing more."

On Quotenmeter.de Julian Miller wrote:

“The authors undeniably enjoyed their characters honestly, telling them lovingly and stylishly. But the overstylizing of the Berlin clichés undoubtedly turns them into caricatures, which is at the expense of their individuality as characters. In Berlin, you're allowed to do that. But you don't have to. And back to Brandenburg. "

In contrast, the Berliner Morgenpost relates positively to the series:

"Funny dialogues, sympathetic protagonists and skilfully intertwined storylines:" Nix Festes "doesn’t kill the bird when it comes to originality, but it is still worth switching on."

- Sabine Fischer : Berliner Morgenpost
