After a few kilometers, the Njupån flows into the Fuluälven river near the village of Mörkret .

The visitor center of the Fulufjället National Park is located near Mörkret , from where marked hiking trails, some of which are also designed as nature trails , lead to and around Njupeskär. In winter, Njupeskär is a popular destination for ice climbers .

Emergence

The 900 million year old sandstone of Fulufjället contains slightly weathered diabase that is quickly eroded by the water. The Njupeskär was created by retreating erosion , as the water falling from the Fjällplateau carried away the rock of the mountains further and further. This process has been going on here for millions of years and is still ongoing.
