Noël Cunningham-Reid (born December 25, 1930 in London ) is a former British racing driver .

Career

Cunningham-Reid was born in 1930 to Ruth Mary Clarisse Ashley and Alec Cunningham-Reid . He was born into a family of politicians, all members of the Conservative Party . His maternal grandfather, Baron Wilfrid Ashley, was British Minister of Transport from 1924 to 1929. His father, a flying ace in World War I , was a member of the British House of Commons from 1922 to 1945 .

Noël Cunningham-Reid himself became known as a racing driver in the 1950s. After initial success in club races, he started as a regular Lister driver in the British sports car championship in 1955 and won the races at Silverstone Circuit , Brands Hatch and Oulton Park . He contested his first international races in 1956 for HWM , for which he started among other things at the 12-hour race in Reims . He celebrated his greatest international success in 1957 when he won the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring as a works driver for Aston Martin together with Tony Brooks .
