Nobuhiro Kiyotaki
Nobuhiro Kiyotaki ( Japanese 清 滝 信 宏 , Kiyotaki Nobuhiro ; born June 24, 1955 ) is a Japanese economist and university professor .
Career, research and teaching
Kiyotaki studied at the University of Tokyo between 1974 and 1978 . After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, he rose to the Ph.D. Program of the university. In 1981 he moved to Harvard University , where he received his Ph.D. graduated with a doctoral thesis entitled "Macroeconomics of Monopolistic Competition".
Between 1985 and 1991, Kiyotaki was an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin – Madison . At the same time, from 1989 onwards, he held guest lectures at Hitotsubashi University and the London School of Economics and Political Science . In 1991 he accepted a call from the University of Minnesota and became an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics . At times he worked on the side for the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis .
In 1997, Kiyotaki took up his first full professorship when he was appointed to the Department of Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science in London. In 2006 he returned to the United States and became a professor at Princeton University .
The focus of Kiyotaki's research and teaching is on macroeconomics and the money economy . Together with Randall Wright , he developed the Kiyotaki-Wright model , with the help of which it is shown that money as a medium of exchange increases welfare, as more goods are traded compared to pure barter .
With the British John Hardman Moore , Kiyotaki developed the Kiyotaki-Moore model to explain how the interaction of real estate prices and restrictions in lending can lead to larger fluctuations in income and assets from small shocks. In 1999 they received the Yrjö Jahnsson Prize for their work .
