The bees are 7 to 9 millimeters long. The head and thorax of the females are black and have red markings. The tergites are predominantly red, some basal black. The face is as long as it is wide. The labrum is black and has a strong tooth in the middle. The frontal plate ( clypeus ) protrudes. The third antenna segment is almost as long as the fourth. The scutellum is spotted in red. With the exception of the triangular field, the trunk of the propodeum is dense, short, hairy white. The pleura of the mesonotum are occasionally structured as a point between the hips ( coxae ). The rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs are drawn out into a point at the end and have three or four long, dark thorns. The males resemble the females. Their mandibles , cheeks and the front edge of the forehead plate are yellow-red. The antennae are shorter than they are wide and have a nodule on the back. The second and third tergite are provided with felty white hairs on the sides. The rails of the hind legs have bright thorns at the end.
